Minoxidil for Men and Women Review

by webpan on August 18, 2011

Many have flaunted that Minoxidil is one of the most excellent answer for those who have hair loss or baldness issues. There are claims regarding Minoxidil that this may have side effects. Let us go through its clinical studies result and what most people have gone through after using Minoxidil.

Sine the year 1980, Minoxidil has been used by many men and women to treat their hair loss or baldness problems. It is used as foam which is applied on to the scalp. The application will be left for a period of hours or approximately for 4 hours. After 4 hours, this tropical solution applied to scalp will then be rinsed off.

5 percent concentration is generally used by men and 2 percent for women. How this Minoxidil do its job is not exactly clear but then it is proven by many men and women users that Minoxidil works. How Minoxidil works is believed to be associated with the chemical structure it has which includes nitric oxide chemical structure and may be nitric oxide agonist, this purport that it is linked with nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is renowned to be a vasodilator which relaxes and smoothes muscles in blood vessels. This causes the dilating.

Minoxidil increases nitric oxide’s ability to dilate blood vessels. When this happens, the hair follicles on the scalp with be nourished thus gives hair growth and it inhibits hair loss.

Clinical studies show that the cause of hair loss is because of the buildup of DHT or the dihydrotestosterone. This build up of DHT gathers in the hair follicle and it is the cause of blood supply restriction. This starves the hair and it causes the hair to go thin and fall out.

Because the hair follicle does not have the necessary nutrients it needs, then the hair won’t grow again. This may result to baldness. Minoxidil can be applied directly to the scalp or be taken through its capsule form. By doing this, it dilates the blood vessels and gives nutrients back and it stimulate hair growth.

This treatment is available over the counter and prescription is not needed when buying it. Minoxidil is also advertised as Rogaine or Regaine.

Clinical studies show that only 50 percent of men who uses Minoxidil have seen the positive result. But it is pointed out by most surveys that 80 percent of men can see the positive result after using Minoxidil. The result may vary depending on the age of the user. This may be due to the levels of DHT in the scalp as men grow old.

Minoxidil is more effective as hair loss treatment to older men because older men have more hormone blocking then hair follicles. Therefore, Minoxidil is effective in rejuvenating hair growth to younger men and treatment for hair loss for older men.

Immediate result may not be transparent after 4 to 6 months of using Minoxidil, but it does work after sometime. If it doesn’t work after 7 months then discontinue usage and see for your doctor’s advice.
